Gotland is known for its stunning beaches, but not everyone realizes just how many there are or where the best swimming spots can be found. With 800 kilometers of coastline, the island offers countless places to enjoy the water.

The picture stones from Gotland are the most remarkable art preserved from before the birth of Christ, Sweden's only monumental art from the Viking Age. Many believe they depict Norse mythology, but that is far from certain.

Many of Gotland’s fishing villages have become picturesque spots for leisure, but they once served a much tougher purpose. It’s interesting to note that while cultural preservation is thriving, the number of active fishermen has greatly diminished.

The island of Gotland is home to around 80 hillforts, spanning from the Bronze Age to the Viking era, which served diverse functions including coastal watch, commercial activities, and defensive strongholds.
