Ihreviken fishing village

Near the imposing Kasa Cliff lies a fishing village in Ihreviken. While it may not appear ancient at first glance, it likely has a long history. The fishing village itself might not be worth a detour, despite archaeologists finding artifacts that hint at Viking-era origins. However, the surroundings, nature, views, and the impressive shoreline beneath the cliff are certainly worth exploring.

Natural Beauty and Historical Significance

The area offers several attractions:

  • The road leading to Ihreviken is an experience in itself
  • Stunning natural scenery
  • A walkable shoreline under the cliff

Decline of Traditional Fishing

Albert Eskeröd, in his book "Gotländska stränder" (Gotland Shores), Stockholm 1962, notes the decline of fishing in the area:

In 1960, only three part-time fishermen remained 30 years earlier, there was "quite a thriving fishing industry with about ten professional fishermen, some of whom also lived down by the shore"
